My Mum still treasures this china trinket box that my sister and I bought for Mother's Day in 1981. We'd see it in the newsagent's window and saved our pocket money for weeks. We kept returning to the window to gaze longingly at it, hoping that it wouldn't have been sold before we had enough money! After weeks without comics or sweets we'd saved up and were so excited to finally buy it. We were so sure our Mum would be delighted and she was.
Thankfully, 38 years later there's much better choice of gifts for even the youngest buyer, but it shows how much the smallest gift can mean. It still has pride of place on my Mum's dressing table even though it stands out like a sore thumb! It reminds me just how naive and innocent my sister and I were back then and how far we have come in matters of style!
You might need a little reminder as this year Mother's Day is a little late on Sunday 27th March, but you don't need reminding how special your mum is. In today's fast paced world families have never been more important. Mums are the glue that hold families together and Mother's Day is your chance to repay the debt for all those years of hand-holding, face-wiping, tear-drying and pep-talking. Make sure you take time to let her know just how much you value her love and support. You could see what's on offer at your local newsagent but surely she'd much rather have something lovely from us!
I still treasure two China bears (Mummy and Baby) standing on a slate base with the words I Love You Mum….one of the bears feet is chipped now but I will always keep this momentum bought by my sons over forty years ago, just like your Mum with her China Sofa. Lovely memories.
better gift than the homemade perfume would we rustle up for her!
I bet your Mum’s heart warms every time she dusts her trinket box. She’ll remember that Sunday morning as if it was yesterday. Little things mean a lot!
