Five fantastic ways to support small businesses right now!

As we begin to think about easing slowly out of lockdown, shops like us are busy making preparations for possibly re-opening in June. But, at the moment, thats only a possibility and even when we do re-open, it won't go back to normal (as we remember it) for some further time to come. So small businesses of all kinds need your support now. Read on for some great ideas to help make sure that those little gems you love are still going to be there for you in the future. 

1. Shop consciously 

If you need to buy something, then choose where you buy from carefully. Large DIY stores are back open now, but your local hardware might be able to supply what you need. Why not give them a call and find out before you spend elsewhere? Many small businesses that didn't sell online or offer delivery before are doing so now. Look out for new opportunities.

2. Don't delay 

For a huge proportion of small businesses, immediate cash flow is the key to survival. Any money coming in is a vital lifeline, enabling them to pay suppliers and keep their companies afloat. And every penny adds up, so even if it's not much, all purchases matter to small businesses. 

3. Leave good reviews

If you are financially unable to support a local business, there are plenty of other ways you can help such as sharing their posts on social media and leaving great reviews online.  Reaching out with positive Facebook recommendations or Google Business Reviews encourages other people like you to support great little businesses. And, its a massive psychological boost for business owners, giving them the strength to persevere through tough trading times.

4. Buy gift cards

Buying a gift card from a local business is an immediate way to put cash into your favourite shop. It is also a great way to show businesses how much you appreciate their work and a gesture of customer loyalty in uncertain times.

5. Order takeaway food and drink

While many local restaurants have opted to close their doors completely, a number are still open for takeaway and delivery, including many that did not provide that service before the outbreak. Why not take a break from cooking every now and then to help support local cafes and restaurants.
